A person not long ago told me: ”you have a lot of knowledge that is contrary to all I have learned throughout my live and that I don’t understand so I don’t accept it as I’m comfortable with what I know”. That is actually the opinion of many, at least in the western world, as they were taught that don’t have any power whatsoever to deal and understand their life experiences and always need a higher power to pray and beg for help.
Same thing happened to ancient wise people and scientist when Galileo Galilei demonstrated his heliocentric model, proving in 1633 Nicolaus Copernicus 1543 astronomical model, but as punishment the Church placed him under house arrest for the rest of his life after being found guilty of heresy by the Catholic Church for advocating the heliocentric theory, which contradicted the Earth-centered model widely accepted at the time; he was forced to recant his beliefs during his trial in 1633.
Thus, the Catholic Church pardoned Galileo Galilei for his punishment after more than 350 years when Pope John Paul II in 1991 formally acknowledged that the Church had been wrong to condemn Galileo, and that Galileo was right. The Pope's statement came after a 13-year investigation by a committee of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
Also, the Salem witchcraft events began in late February 1692 and lasted through April, 1693. All told, at least twenty-five people died: nineteen were executed by hanging, one was tortured to death, and at least five died in jail due to harsh conditions. Over 160 people were accused of witchcraft, most were jailed, and many deprived of property and legal rights. Accused persons lived in the town of Salem and Salem Village (now Danvers) and in two dozen other towns in eastern Massachusetts Bay Colony. Nearly fifty people confessed to witchcraft, most to save themselves from immediate trial. Hundreds of other people in the Bay Colony -- neighbors, relatives, jurors, ministers, and magistrates -- were caught up in the legal proceedings of the trials. In October 1692, Governor William Phips ended the special witchcraft court in Salem. Accusations soon abated and eventually stopped. In January, the new Superior Court of Judicature began to try the remaining cases and eventually cleared the jails. After Salem trials, no one was convicted of witchcraft in New England. During the Salem trials, more people were accused and executed than in all the previous witchcraft trials in New England. Injustices that happen because of the lack of knowledge and understanding the laws governing our world.
The big evil in our human species is ignorance and the arrogance of being comfortable of knowing just a little about life evolution believing we know it all. Staying always in our comfort zone makes us temporarily happy but not evolving as human and spiritual beings.
As I always say: “all human knowledge as well as religions has something in common which is the closest we can get to the ultimate truth and ultimate reality of all physical experiences, the rest is just man made”. The clue is having the ability to make synthesis of all what is common between all knowledge to achieve that wisdom and ultimately the higher human potential.
