The Posture of Dying

Traditionally, the posture usually recommended for dying is to lie on the right side and adopt the posture of the "sleeping lion", which is the one in which Buddha died.

The left hand rests on the left thigh; the right hand is placed under the chin, covering the right nostril.

The legs are stretched, leaving them slightly bent.

On the right side of the body there are certain subtle channels that favor the "karmic wind" of deception.

By lying on this side in the posture of the sleeping lion and covering the right nostril, these channels are blocked and the recognition of luminosity is facilitated when the dawn of death comes.

In addition, this posture helps consciousness to leave the body through the opening of the crown, since all the other openings through which it could leave are blocked.
