“Transmigration of living atoms" describes the scientific concept that atoms from a dead organism are recycled into new ones, and the philosophical/religious concept that a soul or life energy moves from one body to another. While atoms simply rearrange after death, in a scientific sense, the same atoms can form a new living organism over time. Philosophically, concepts like transmigration or reincarnation involve a non-material "self" or soul that inhabits different physical bodies, a idea supported by many religions."

Scientific perspective:

  • Atoms are recycled: After an organism dies, its body decomposes and its atoms are reused in the environment to form new matter, including new living organisms.

  • The body is not permanent: The specific arrangement of atoms that made up a person is not permanent, and a complete "copy" of a person with the exact same atoms and arrangement is extremely unlikely to form again, according to Quora users.

  • Constant exchange: Living organisms are in a constant state of exchanging atoms with their environment, so a person's body is never made of the exact same atoms from one moment to the next.

    Philosophical and religious perspective :

  • Transmigration: The term "transmigration" refers to the movement of a soul from one body to another, such as in the case of the Hindu concept of Atman (soul).

  • Karma and rebirth: Many religions believe in a cycle of death and rebirth, or samsara, where a soul is reborn into a new body based on its past actions (karma).

  • "Life-atoms": Some philosophical traditions, like Theosophy, propose the idea of "life-atoms" that are infused with life energy and are carried by a soul between incarnations.

  • Non-material self: The concept of transmigration only makes sense if there is a non-material aspect to a being, like a soul or a spark of life, that survives physical death.
