šļø OM (ą„): MORE THAN A SYMBOLāIT IS A MAP OF CONSCIOUSNESS
OM is the contraction of three syllables:AUM, which represents the fundamental sound that manifests, sustains and transforms the Universe.
In the final stage of their spiritual practice, the Swamis or renunciants, abandon all elaborate meditation to concentrate on the practice of OM.
The Om (Aum) symbol is one of the most recognized spiritual symbols in the world.
But did you know that every curve, every sound, and even the tiny dot carries profound philosophical meaning?
According to the Upanishads and Hindu philosophy, Om is the primordial vibration from which the universe emerged.
Here are five fascinating facts about Om:
š§ It represents the four states of consciousnessāWaking (Jagrat), Dreaming (Swapna), Deep Sleep (Sushupti), and Turiya, the highest state of pure awareness.
š The crescent symbolizes Maya (illusion)āthe veil that separates ordinary perception from ultimate reality.
āøļø It is revered across multiple Indian traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, as a sacred sound of spiritual awakening.
š± The syllables A-U-M represent the cosmic cycle:
⢠A ā Brahma (Creation)
⢠U ā Vishnu (Preservation)
⢠M ā Shiva (Transformation)
š It is considered the universal sound, beginning at the back of the throat and ending at the lips, symbolizing the full spectrum of human speech and existence.
Om is not merely chanted.
It is contemplated.
It is experienced.
It is a reminder that behind all diversity lies one eternal reality.
"Om is the sound of creation, the symbol of consciousness, and the bridge between the individual and the infinite."Today we can do the following exercise:
Sitting comfortably, let's inhale gently until we fill our lungs and exhale while singing A UM (separate syllables into two groups). Before we inhale again, let's say mentally:
I AM GOD! It's good to concentrate on the heart while doing it or between the eyes (frown) and visualize the syllable in a luminous way.
Avoid doing this practice if you've had a bad time or are full of anger.
OM is to the DIVINE, what light is to the flame!
